Lonard Hazelip Webb

1938 - 2021

Lonard Hazelip Webb, age 83 of Mammoth Cave peacefully departed this life on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at his residence.  The Edmonson County native was born on September 8, 1938 to the late Oren H. and Sybil James Webb.

Lonard was saved as a young boy and was a conductor of prayer meetings at Sweeden Baptist Church at age ten.  He has been a devout Christian and devoted member of Union Light Missionary Baptist Church since February 4, 1973.  He is an alumni of Western Kentucky University, where he played his favorite past-time, basketball.  Along with being the Wildcats number one fan, he once loved to fish, hunt and race cars at Beech Bend.   He loved to laugh and was a friend to many.  His motto was, “if you want friends, show yourself friendly,” and that is what he did as he would wave at every passerby.  He loved to learn and most of all teach.  He was an elementary school teacher at many of Edmonson County’s local schools– Kyrock, Brownsville and Sunfish to name a few.

He married the love of his life, Estelene Smith Webb, on June 18, 1960, and since has serenated her and the community with his beautiful poetry.  They together were the owners of Webb’s Grocery for fifty years,  where he loved to serve our community.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  Besides his dearest wife, Estelene, he leaves to honor his memory— his daughter whom he cherished, Lonna Sheree Webb; two grandchildren, Lonnie Jenkins and Markeeta Hill (Ray); three great-grandchildren, Lilly Jenkins, Preston Hill and Delilia Jenkins, whom he greatly adored.  Furthermore, he has four siblings, Grace Dean Lashley (James Gilbert), Marvin Hal Webb (Linda), Brenda Sue Hill (Richard) and Evelyn Shrader (Larry).  He was also preceded in death by one brother, Emerson Webb.

Interment will be in Union Light Church Cemetery.
