Walton Key, age 88, of Bowling Green, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at his residence. The Edmonson County native was born on June 18, 1936, to the late Kelly Newton and Dottie Lillian Potter Key. He was married to his loving wife and best friend, Dorothy Mattingly Key, until God called her home on December 11, 2019.
Walton had an infectious zest for life, always wearing a smile and pouring his heart into working on his farm. He cherished the time spent with family and friends, sharing laughter and his love for sports. As a dedicated athlete from Sunfish High School, he inspired others with his passion. Honored as a Kentucky Colonel, Walt also embraced his role as a member of Sunny Point General Baptist Church, embodying the spirit of community and fellowship.
He leaves to honor his memory— his sons, Gary Key (Jeanne) of Galveston, TX and Scott Key (Jennifer) of Woodlands, TX; grandchildren, Lauren Key (Drew Butler), Lindsay Key (Brad Croak) and Caitlin Key, along with his great-grandchildren, Bear, Field and Rain Butler and Millie and Milo Croak.
The interment will be in Sunny Point General Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to: Sunny Point General Baptist Church.
