Sheila James VanMeter

Sheila James VanMeter, age 67, of Brownsville, suddenly departed this life on Friday, May 16, 2025, in Brownsville. The Edmonson County native was born on November 4, 1957, to the late Roger and Shirley James. She was married to her loving husband, Samuel Dale VanMeter, until God called him home on January 3, 2021.

Sheila exemplified an exceptional work ethic throughout her life, dedicating many years to Pearson's IGA, where she met her soul mate and best friend, Sam. After her time at Pearson's, Sheila took on the role of business office manager and dietician at Edmonson Health Care Center, where she made countless memories until her retirement. In the years that followed, Sheila brought joy to the team at Webb's Eats and Treats, where her warmth and kindness made a lasting impact on her coworkers and the customers who frequented their business.

Sheila was saved at Pleasant Union United Baptist Church, and joined herself with Oak Grove United Baptist Church, a place she held dear. Aside from church, Sheila deeply valued her time with family. Whether it was her children or her grandchildren, those moments spent together filled her heart with joy and love.

She leaves to honor her memory— her children, Amber Upton (Christopher) and Corey VanMeter, all of Brownsville; grandchildren, Holly Elizabeth Logsdon, Ty Anthony Logsdon, Addelyn Jane VanMeter, Rylan Samuel VanMeter and Cailan William Upton; in-laws, Virgil and Yolanda VanMeter, Timmy VanMeter (Cheryl), Jeff VanMeter (Angela), Travis D. Logsdon and Trena James; a dear friend, Stephanie Haley, along with several friends, coworkers and extended family members that will surely miss her. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Amy Logsdon and siblings, Thomas James and Linda Murphy.

The interment will be in Oak Grove Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to: Oak Grove Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Harry Girard.
