Shannon G. Deweese, age 79 of Cecilia, peacefully departed this life on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Baptist Health Hardin. The Edmonson County native was born on December 29, 1946 to the late Cleo and Pauline Prewitt Deweese. He was married to his loving and devoted wife of sixty-one years, Faye Cox Deweese, who survives.
Shannon was raised in a loving, Christian home and was saved at age 11. He joined Sweeden Missionary Baptist Church on experience and baptism at the close of a revival and was baptized by his Uncle, Bro. Lacy Minton. He remained a member there until 1974, when he and Faye joined Hardin County First United Baptist Church, where he was ordained a deacon in 1976. Over the years, he became a cornerstone of Hardin County, as someone people knew they could turn to. He was gifted with prayer, understanding and wisdom, and the ability to teach and reason with people. He was called a peacemaker by his dear friend, Bro. Freddie Vertrees. He often said the best times of his life were when he was walking close to the Lord and able to have a conversation with Him. He said he was never satisfied unless he was in that place. He was thankful for the family and community that he was born into. He always said the Lord could’ve placed him anywhere, but for some reason, he placed him among some of the very best, those who prayed for him and nurtured him in the ways of God, and for that he could never thank the Lord enough.
Shannon worked for E-town Paving Company as a plant foreman for over 20 years, and when they were purchased by Scotty’s Contracting and Stone, he worked for them another 30 years as an asphalt plant maintenance technician. He loved the job he did, and it showed. He and his crew built asphalt plants from the ground up and sometimes took them down again, to build them back in another location. He was good at what he did and was a trusted and respected co-worker who was always known to give his all. He instilled that work ethic in his family.
He encouraged his family to “always remember what manner of person you are” when they would go out away from home, because as Christians, we had a duty to live right in front of others. He was the first to admit that he failed to live right all the time, but he always encouraged his family to pray and try to do their very best. He laid up prayers and was able to see all of his children and grandchildren saved, which was the most important thing in the world to him. Those prayers carry us today as we will miss him and his loving guidance forever.
Besides his wife, Faye, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Shana Brooks (Jay) of Glendale and Charlie Deweese (Angelic) of Cecilia; four beloved grandchildren, Jessica Brooks (fiancé, Rob Jasper), Taylor Spears (Micah), Makenzie Deweese and Dallas Deweese, and his great-grandchildren who were the apples of his eye, Graham and Marsali Spears, and another great-granddaughter who is due any day. He was also preceded in death by and infant son and daughter, and his siblings, Sandra Joy and Larry Deweese.
The interment will be in Sweeden Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
