Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Patty Joe Bell, age 62, of Louisville, departed this life on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Norton Hospital. A native of Jefferson County, she was born on February 20, 1964, to her loving mother, Frances Marie Samples, and the late Allen Samples, Sr. Patty was united in marriage to her beloved husband, James Bell, who survives.

Patty worked as a security officer, but it was her kind and compassionate spirit that truly defined her. She had a heart of gold and a generous nature that knew no bounds. Always willing to lend a helping hand, she would give the shirt off her back or open her home and provide a bed to sleep in for anyone who found themselves in need. Her willingness to care for others and offer comfort to those facing difficult times was a reflection of the love she carried in her heart. Patty had a special way of making others feel welcomed and cared for, never hesitating to give what she could to help someone else.

In her leisure time, Patty enjoyed gaming, finding enjoyment and relaxation in a favorite pastime. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her caring nature, and the kindness she extended to those fortunate enough to know her. Her life serves as a reminder that some of the greatest gifts we can offer are compassion, a helping hand, and a place of comfort when it is needed most.

Besides her husband and mother, James and Frances, she leaves to honor her memory— her children, Crystal Higgins (Larry, Jr.) of Chalybeate, Robert Spanjers of Louisville and Kara Spanjers of Springfield, MO; granddaughters, Alivia Higgins and Kaelin Pearl; great-granddaughter, Emersyn Higgins; beloved siblings, Dorothy Toliver (Billy), Janet Wright (Donnie), Allen Samples, Jr. and Juanita Florence; nephew, William Schmitt (Terra); aunt, Karen Brown; special friends, John C.J. Terry, Joanna Schmitt and Ashlee Hansen, along with several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Gene and John Samples and grandparents, Raymond Carwile and Marie Harper.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Patty Bell Memorial Fund, c/o Patton Funeral Home, PO Box 326, Brownsville, KY  42210.
