Marlene Karen Marr, age 72, of Pig, departed this life on Friday, September 18, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by the love of her family. The Highland, Indiana native was born on November 14, 1953, to the late Steve and Menka Speroff. She was married to her loving and devoted husband, Gary Lee Marr, Sr., who survives. The words of Proverbs 31:10 (KJV), “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies,” are a beautiful reflection of Marlene—a woman of faith, grace, compassion, and a generous spirit whose love for the Lord touched every part of her life.

Marlene was a devoted homemaker and wife who found great purpose in caring for her family and making sure their every need was met. Her home was a place of love, warmth, and comfort, and she poured her heart into the people she loved most. She found joy in the simple, meaningful things of life—tending her garden, preparing delicious meals, quilting, sewing, and creating beautiful artwork with her hands. She was a woman who could take ordinary things and make them special, leaving a little bit of her creativity and love in everything she touched. After her children were grown, Marlene continued her servant’s heart through her work as a special services instructor for Chalybeate Head Start. She had a genuine love for children and found fulfillment in helping and caring for others. Whether in her home, her work, or her community, Marlene gave of herself freely and never seemed to ask for anything in return.

Above all else, Marlene loved the Lord. Her faith was not simply something she spoke about—it was something she lived. She desired to glorify God in her everyday life, and that desire could be seen in the way she loved her family, served others, extended kindness, and carried herself with grace. She attended Elkhorn Tabernacle and sought to honor the Lord not only through her worship, but through the life she lived each day.

Her greatest treasures were not things that could be bought or measured, but the people she loved and the opportunity to serve God by loving and caring for those He placed in her life. Besides Gary, she leaves to honor her memory —her children, Gary Marr, Jr. of Mell Ridge, KY, and Alicia Laster (John) of Elkton, KY; grandchildren, Aleah Faith Rivas (Josh), Caitlin Hope Page (Boaz), John Michael Laster (Emma), and Jonathan Garrett Laster; great-grandchildren, Hallie and Elsie Rivas, Jack Page, and Daisy Laster; siblings, Jeff Speroff (Jill), Violet Keen, and Beverly Speroff (Paul Murphy); along with several nieces and nephews.

The interment will be in Smiths Grove Cemetery.
