Kevin's greatest joy in life was his family.

Kevin Dale Houchens, age 65, of Cave City, departed this life on Saturday, August 15, 2026, surrounded by those he loved most. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose greatest joy in life was his family. A Barren County native, Kevin was born on October 10, 1960, to the late Bill and Annette Estes Houchens. He was blessed with a loving and devoted wife, Martha Stinson Houchens, who survives.

Kevin was a hardworking man who never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He began his career in plumbing before moving into electrical work, where he owned and operated Kevin Houchens Electric, a business he continued to run until he was preparing to retire. Through his work, he met countless people and genuinely enjoyed striking up conversations and making connections along the way. He was known for giving freely of his time, talents, and skills to help others, never expecting anything in return. Kevin was also a member of The PLACE Church, where he found fellowship and a place to grow in his faith and worship alongside others.

Kevin loved his children and grandchildren more than anything and treasured being a part of their lives. Whether he was playing ball, taking them fishing, coaching from the sidelines, or simply watching them do what they loved, he always wanted to be there. He was their biggest supporter and took great pride in watching them grow and succeed. His passion for his family was evident in everything he did, and even when his temper came out during a ballgame, it was simply because he wanted the very best for those he loved. Kevin’s family was truly his greatest joy, and the memories they made together will be cherished for generations to come.

Seven years ago, Kevin’s life took a difficult turn, beginning a journey that brought challenges he could never have imagined. Through it all, he fought hard and tried to regain the life he once knew. Though those years were difficult for Kevin and his family, his love for them never wavered. As they watched him face his final days, they found comfort in knowing how deeply he loved them and in the many precious memories they shared.

Besides his loving wife, Martha, he leaves to honor his memory-- his children, Ryan Houchens (Casey) and LeeAnn Houchens; his grandchildren, Landen, Kaiden, Kenzleigh, Brogen, Laycie, Rayce, Lauryn, Bailey and Dylan; his step-great-granddaughter, Charlotte; his brother, Mike Houchens; Josh Wright, who he loved like a son, along with several special nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Billy Houchens. Kevin’s time here was far too short, but he leaves behind a lifetime of love, friendship and memories.

The interment will be in Cave City Cemetery.

Kevin had a special love for children and enjoyed nothing more than watching them participate in sports, especially his own children and grandchildren. In keeping with his love of kids and his passion for youth sports, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Barren County Parks and Recreation Youth Sports, 117 N. Public Square, Glasgow, KY 42141.
