John Kent Hood, 72, of Cave City, passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Shanti Niketan Hospice Home in Glasgow. Born on June 16, 1953, in Jackson, Mississippi, Kent was the son of the late Maxine Hays Cutliff and Ervin Luther Hood. After losing his father at a young age, Kent was blessed when his mother married Lewis Cutliff, who lovingly raised him as his own and became the steady, guiding presence of a devoted father in his life.
Kent was a gifted master carpenter whose talent, patience, and steady hands shaped not only wood, but lives. For more than 26 years at the Barren County Vocational Center, he poured his knowledge and heart into his work, mentoring students and leaving a legacy of craftsmanship and integrity that will endure for generations. He found joy in the simple things of life. Kent was an avid collector who took pride in his eclectic collection of items, each piece reflecting his appreciation for history, tradition, and the beauty of well-crafted things. His collection was as diverse as his interests, each item carrying its own unique story. He was particularly fond of motorcycles, especially his Harley Davidson named Ethel & Maxine. He seized every opportunity to ride and tinker with them.
Faith and service were cornerstones of Kent’s life. As a member of Park City United Methodist Church, he served as treasurer of the Pathfinders Food Pantry, a ministry especially dear to him. He had a servant’s heart and quietly stepped in wherever there was a need. Whether volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, overseeing the transient fund for several local churches, or coaching youth sports teams, Kent gave generously of his time and compassion. He believed in helping others stand a little taller and in making his community a better place.
He leaves to honor his memory— his loving and faithful wife, Terri Hood of Cave City; sons, John Jacob Hood (Stephanie) of Nashville; John Clay Hood (Diana) of Ft. Thomas and John Wesley Hood (Katie) of Franklin; grandchildren, Mary Faith Hood, John Kevin Hood and Turner Lewis Hood; father, Lewis Cutliff of Park City; siblings, Mark Edward Hood (Amanda) of Plano and Alicia Lynn Goodman (Steve) of Rocky Hill; first wife, Lonna Sue Harlow of Detroit, MI; special friend, Angela Briggs of Glasgow; his loving dog, Clyde, along with several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his infant son, John Michael Hood.
Memorial contributions can be made to: Pathfinders Food Pantry, 406 N. Dixie Hwy., Cave City, KY 42127.
The interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
