James Elliott Carroll, age 78, of Glasgow, passed away peacefully April 13, 2026, at Norton Audubon Heart and Vascular Institute, Louisville, KY, with his family at his bedside. Jim was born February 5, 1948, in Norfolk, VA, to the late Overt and Vivian Grimes Carroll. Jim was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 48 years, Sina, and a proud and loving father to his daughter, Hannah. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was Baptist by faith and regularly attended Horse Cave Baptist Church.
Jim proudly served two tours of duty in Vietnam in the 2nd Battalion, 34 Armor. He remained active in the 2nd Battalion 34th Armor Dreadnaught Association, which was formed by Pat Foster in 1990 as a way to give back to their country and remain united as a group that served together in Vietnam. He was fortunate to be able to attend what has become his last reunion, held in September 2025 in San Juan Capistrano, CA.
After serving his country, he graduated from Western Kentucky University with a degree in Business Administration. He continued to serve his country with a fulfilling career with the National Park Service that spanned 38 years. Upon retirement, Jim and Sina enjoyed traveling and spending winters at their home in Florida. He was also an avid toy train collector and enjoyed driving and showing his vintage cars. He was best known to friends and family for weekend waffle breakfasts, serving guests first and sneaking a bite occasionally straight from the waffle iron.
He leaves to honor his memory— his loving wife, Sina; their daughter, Hannah; granddog, Belle; brother-in-law, Charles Sallee; sister-in-law, Sandra Carroll; nephews, Brian Carroll, Greg Sallee, and Wil Brown, and nieces, Laura Johnson, Rachel Sallee, and Callie Papia. Besides his parents, Overt and Vivian Carroll, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Overt Carroll, and sister, Kathleen Sallee.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Hart of Autism at www.hartofautism.org, P.O. Box 84, Munfordville, KY 42765, in honor of their nephew, Wil Brown, or to Shanti Niketan Hospice Home, 1020 Glenview Dr., Glasgow, KY 42141.
