James Leo Carrier

January 23, 1942 — April 11, 2025

James Leo Carrier, age 83 of Pine Grove, often testified, “God put a love in my heart that will take me home.” He found that perfect love and peace on Friday, April 11, 2025 when God called him to his eternal home. The Warren County native was born on January 23, 1942 to the late Arthur and Maggie Watt Carrier. He was married to his beloved and devoted wife of sixty-three years, Joyce Simmons Carrier, who survives.

A man of strong faith, Leo found his spiritual home at Boiling Springs Baptist Church, where he was saved. He later joined Pine Grove United Baptist Church, where he became a deacon and devoted member for over 64 years. Leo's faithfulness to his church extended beyond attendance; he served as the church clerk for over 27 years, dedicating countless hours to the well-being of his church. Additionally, Leo dedicated a significant portion of his life to his career. He worked at Dibrell Tobacco Company, until its closure. He then later retired after many years as a maintenance supervisor from Auburn Hosiery Mill. His work ethic and commitment to his roles were commendable, reflecting the values he held so dear.

Outside of his professional and spiritual life, Leo had a profound love for spending time on his farm, engaging in the simple pleasures of fishing, and soaking in the beauty of nature. His passion for southern gospel music was evident, as he shared his love for singing with his family in the Carrier Quartet, creating lasting memories through music that brought joy to many. Most importantly, he loved and valued his family above all.

Besides his wife, Joyce, he leaves to honor his memory— his son, Marty Carrier of Boiling Springs; a sister, Brenda Sue Richards; sister-in-law, Vontella Carrier, along with several nieces and nephews that he loved as his own. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Bobby Joe Carrier, William Cleo Carrier, Betty Jean Carrier and Charlene Stice Carrier.

The interment will be in Pine Grove Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to: Pine Grove Cemetery Fund, c/o Tim Graham.
