Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Her family will forever cherish the laughter, love, and memories she gave them.

Helen Pippin, age 75, of Mammoth Cave, departed this life on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Edmonson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong native of Edmonson County, Helen was born on January 28, 1951, to the late Orville and Elva Poteet Carroll. She was the beloved wife of the late Bob Pippin.

Helen was a hardworking woman who spent many years serving others as a waitress at Mammoth Cave Hotel. She was a member of Fairview United Baptist Church, where her faith was an important part of her life. Helen found joy in the simple things that made life beautiful—tending to her garden, surrounding herself with flowers, caring for her beloved fur babies, and, most of all, being with the family she loved so dearly.

Those who knew Helen will remember her for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. She had a good and generous heart, a strong independent spirit, and a personality all her own. She could be a little mischievous and loved to tease and aggravate those she loved, often bringing laughter and a smile to the people around her. Helen was a special kind of person who could make an ordinary moment memorable, and her family will forever cherish the laughter, love, and memories she gave them.

Helen’s greatest treasures were the people she loved. She leaves to honor and cherish her memory— her beloved daughter, April Starnes of Chalybeate; cherished grandchildren, Dalton Starnes (fiancée, Mackenzie Johnston) and Olivia Starnes (fiancé, Gavin Rowe), all of Chalybeate; treasured siblings, Corene Rigdon (Melvin) of Mammoth Cave, Geraldine Miller of Leitchfield, and Sue Sanders of Brownsville, along with several nieces and nephews, whom she loved as dearly as her own children. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jillian Dawn Pippin; siblings, Ralph and Roger Carroll and Jackie Bratcher, and her husband, Bob Pippin.

Interment will be in Jock Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
