Charles Atnip, age 76, of Glasgow, departed this life on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the V.A. Medical Center in Nashville, TN. A proud Barren County native, he was born on June 26, 1950, to the late Charlie and Ilma Atnip. He was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart and best friend of thirty-four years, Hope Atnip, and together they shared a life filled with love, family, faith, and countless memories. Their bond was one that stood the test of time, and Hope was truly the love of his life and his greatest companion.

A proud patriot, Charles honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War Era. His service was a reflection of the same qualities he carried throughout his life—strength, loyalty, dedication, and an unwavering sense of responsibility to those around him. Charles worked as a self-employed truck driver, a job that allowed him to spend many miles traveling the open roads and enjoying the beauty of the countryside. He took pride in his work and in providing for his family. His faith was also an important part of his life, and he devotedly attended The PLACE Worship Center with his family.

When he wasn't working, Charles found joy in the simple things. He loved piddling around in the yard, tending to his flowers, and spending time outdoors. Give him a fishing pole and a quiet place to cast a line, and he was content. These ordinary moments were often the ones that made life special to him. Charles was a man of strong character who could be a little stern when he needed to be, but beneath that tough exterior was a deeply caring and compassionate heart. He was the kind of man who didn't always have to say a lot to let you know he cared. His love was often expressed through his actions—by showing up, offering his support, lending a helping hand, and being there when someone needed him. He was dependable, loyal, and steadfast, and the people who knew him best knew they could count on him.

Besides his loving wife, Hope, he leaves to honor and cherish his memory—his children, John E. Houchens (Mandi) of Smiths Grove and Aimee Shockley (Derek) of Glasgow; grandchildren, Shelby Pace (Wes), SheaLee Coy, Drew Shockley (Leslie), Brilee Comer, Haley Scott (Wade), and Whitney Houchens; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Baylor, Hattie Ann, Lyric, Bristol, Ellie, and another precious great-grandchild arriving soon, Liam Wade, and brothers-in-law, Doug Poynter and David Billa.

Memorial contributions may be made to The PLACE Worship Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Gideons International.

A military graveside service honoring Charles's life and service to his country will be conducted by the Barren County DAV at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
