Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Barbara Joyce Carrier, age 79 of Pine Grove, departed this life on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at her residence. The Edmonson County native was born on February 4, 1946 to the late Raymond Earl and Christine Kinslow Simmons. She was married to the love of her life for over sixty-three years, James Leo Carrier, until they were parted by his passing on April 11, 2025.

Her life was beautifully reflected in Proverbs 31:10: “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.” Joyce was saved at the age of nine at Pine Grove United Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and devoted member throughout her life. She dearly loved her church family, found great joy in singing in the choir, and cherished every moment she spent serving the Lord.

In her younger years, Joyce worked at Dibrell Tobacco, Holley Carburetor, and Eyeglass Optical. While she took pride in her work, the role she cherished most was being a devoted wife, loving mother, and homemaker, caring wholeheartedly for her family. Joyce found great joy in cooking and opening her home to entertain family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come. She also loved taking walks and spending time outdoors, appreciating the simple beauty around her.

She leaves to honor her memory— her beloved son, Marty Carrier of Boiling Springs; sisters-in-law, Vontella Carrier and Brenda Sue Richards, along with several nieces and nephews. She was also blessed with wonderful caregivers—Penny Warf, Anna Ruth Bray, and Vonitta Brumit—whose love and compassion was deeply appreciated by the family. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, David Lee Simmons.

The interment will be in Pine Grove Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Pine Grove Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Tim Graham.
